(LK time)The Sri Lankan Navy captured an Indian fishing vessel and detained 03 Indian fishermen while they were trespassing in Sri Lankan waters, during a targeted operation conducted in the northern sea area off Delft Island, Jaffna.
The Northern Naval Command noticed a group of Indian fishing vessels engaged in unlawful fishing, entering Sri Lankan waters on the night of March 17. In response, the navy deployed its patrol craft to chase away those Indian fishing vessels from Sri Lankan waters, off Delft Island, the Navy said.
The strict boarding carried out by naval personnel led to the confiscation of 01 Indian vessel and capture of 03 Indian fishermen who continued to fish illegally in Sri Lankan waters, it said.
The confiscated boat (01) and Indian fishermen (03) were taken to KKS Harbour and they will be transferred to the Fisheries Inspector of Mailadi, Jaffna for further legal proceedings, the SLN added.
