(LK time)Steps have been taken to recruit 9,000 new officers for the Sri Lanka Police.
Currently, the Sri Lanka Police force comprises approximately 75,000 officers engaged in various duties, including traffic management, crime prevention, and drug control operations.
The decision to recruit additional officers was made due to the current workforce being insufficient to manage these critical activities effectively.
The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) confirmed this development during a special press conference held at the Government Information Department on the morning of the 17th.
He explained that the shortage of officers is primarily due to factors such as officer retirements and the unexpected deaths of officers while on duty.
