Up-country Train Services Back on Track.!

Train operations on the Up-country Railway Line, which were halted due to the derailment of the 1008 passenger train engine from Badulla, have been completely reinstated as of 8:30 a.m. today (10), the Nawalapitiya Railway Control Room confirmed.

The derailment took place in the Pallegama region of Nawalapitiya around 6:00 p.m. yesterday (09), resulting in a full suspension of train movements along the stretch.

Due to this, the night mail train heading from Colombo Fort to Badulla was stationed at Gampola Railway Station, while the night mail service from Badulla to Colombo Fort remained at Nawalapitiya Railway Station until this morning (10).

Railway authorities reported that the derailed engine advanced approximately 270 feet before striking a hillside, ultimately halting its motion.

Additionally, the incident inflicted notable harm to the railway tracks, according to Railway Control Room officials.
