(LK time)The Election Commission has released a crucial announcement for government staff, security personnel, and certifying officials eligible for postal voting.
Accordingly, the deadline for postal voting applications for the Local Government elections, initially set for March 12 midnight, has now been extended until March 17 midnight.
This decision was made due to potential postal delays and several requests submitted to the commission, it stated.
The Election Commission emphasized that applications must reach the District Election Office before midnight on March 17.
Additionally, to minimize possible delays, the commission discourages submitting postal voting applications via post if completed between March 13 and 17. Instead, applicants should organize them by district, place them in separate envelopes, and hand-deliver them to the relevant District Election Office where the Certifying Officer’s office is located.
Furthermore, the Election Commission announced a deadline extension until March 19 only for postal vote applications related to the Poonakary Pradeshiya Sabha in Kilinochchi, Mannar Pradeshiya Sabha in Mannar, and Dehiattakandiya Pradeshiya Sabha in Ampara, as their nomination notice was issued on March 10.
