(LK time)The Commissioner General of Examinations, Amith Jayasundara, announced that 474,147 students have registered for the 2024 (2025) G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) exam.
Speaking at a special media briefing, he stated that 398,182 school applicants and 75,968 private applicants will sit for the exam, which starts tomorrow (17).
He advised candidates to arrive early at exam centers and avoid bringing unauthorized items. Any rule violations could lead to severe disciplinary actions, including a five-year exam ban.
“A total of 3,663 exam centers have been set up, including those in Northern areas, ensuring easy access for all candidates,” he noted.
Special exam centers have also been arranged in Ratmalana, Tangalle, Matara, Chilaw, and Special Education Schools. Furthermore, examination facilities have been provided at the New Magazine Prison, Suneetha Vidyalaya in Watareka, and Maharagama Apeksha Hospital for inmates and special candidates.
The Commissioner General reminded students to bring their admission card and a valid ID (NIC, passport, or driver’s license). Candidates without proper identification must notify exam invigilators, as results will be issued only after identity verification.
Only essential items such as pens, pencils, and a water bottle are allowed inside exam halls. Mobile phones, smartwatches, and correction pens are strictly prohibited, and possession may result in disqualification or a five-year ban.
Exams begin at 8:30 a.m. daily, with afternoon sessions starting at 1:00 p.m., except on Fridays when it starts at 2:00 p.m. Candidates must check their admission card timetable for subject-specific schedules.
“Be present 30 minutes before the exam to avoid inconvenience. Invigilators will ensure candidates are seated by 8:00 a.m.,” he added.
