(LK time)Sri Lanka Vehicle Importers Association Chairman Indika Sampath Merenchige says around 400 vehicles from Japan remain stuck at the port, causing a price hike of Rs. 40,000–50,000 per vehicle.
He noted that two shipments arrived, but no vehicles have been released yet, blaming a poor decision in import recovery and manufacturing date issues.
With the delay, the 10-day free parking period at Hambantota Port will expire, adding an extra Rs. 30,000–40,000 in fees per vehicle.
