(LK time)President Anura Kumara Dissanayake highlighted the importance of delivering top-notch infrastructure and facilities for tourists arriving in Sri Lanka, as the nation has received substantial global attention as a prime travel hotspot.
Accordingly, the President directed authorities to focus closely on this issue and implement necessary measures, the President’s Media Division (PMD) mentioned in a release.
President Dissanayake provided these directives during a meeting conducted today (17) at the Presidential Secretariat with officials representing the Ministry of Tourism.
During the meeting, officials updated the President on financial allocations assigned to the Ministry of Tourism and the initiatives being carried out using those funds, the statement further noted.
With the tourism industry reaching a new milestone, Sri Lanka aspires to welcome three million visitors this year. The discussion also thoroughly addressed the effective use of these funds for upgrading crucial infrastructure to achieve this target, as per the PMD.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tourism and Foreign Employment Vijitha Herath, Deputy Minister of Tourism Dr. Ruwan Ranasinghe, Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage, Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Aruni Ranaraja, alongside a team of senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism, participated in this discussion.
