A Crucial Revelation in the Easter Attack Investigation This Month.!

Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Krishantha Abeysena, stated that true justice for the Easter attacks cannot be achieved in a day or a month, but some progress will be made within this month.

Speaking in Parliament today (17), he mentioned that demonstrations held in previous years would have to continue this year as well until a final solution is reached, and he himself would participate in them.

Minister Dr. Krishantha Abeysena further commented:

“The Easter attacks had a political impact— a political assassination. The country’s governance was also involved. We have said that politicians were responsible for the Easter attacks and that they were under their control, along with officials involved in governing the country. It has now been nearly six years, yet justice has still not been served. We acknowledge this. We understand that this is not an easy task. The Easter attacks happened during the Yahapalana government.

We know who was in the Yahapalana government. We also know who the Minister of Police was at that time. None of this happened then. It happened in the last two years under the Ranil Wickremesinghe government. Some people held parties, had dinner, and went home. They did not say, ‘Oh, Ranil Uncle, bring justice to our Easter attack.’ There are MPs like that.

After our government came into power, we initiated investigations into everything. We cannot conduct half-baked investigations and file cases. If we do that, it will lead to acquittals. A thorough investigation is necessary. We trust the relevant ministry under the Police Ministry. I am confident they will conduct proper investigations, gather evidence, and submit it to the Attorney General’s Department.

A commission was appointed for the Easter attacks, and funds were spent. It has been stagnating for six years. DNA tests were conducted three times. Isn’t this political pressure? We firmly promise that true justice for the Easter attacks will be delivered under our government. It cannot be achieved in just one day, two days, or a month. However, we will take action within this month. It is not easy, but this is not the end. We cannot declare within two months who the mastermind is or that justice has been fully served. It will take more time.

We have been protesting on the 21st of April every year since Negombo. We have marched every year, and we will do so this year as well. I will also participate in the march. We must continue marching on April 21st until a final solution is reached. A final solution cannot be achieved in two months. We fully realised this after coming into power. We have to work with officials. We do not have our own staff. Nevertheless, we will fulfil that promise.”
