CGR Plans to Upgrade Few Office Trains to A/C.!

The Railway Department is focusing on adding air-conditioned coaches to several of the current regular office trains and it is reported that these trains are scheduled to be put into service before the end of this year.

The renovation of these trains has already begun and the necessary staff to operate these trains is scheduled to be recruited on a contract basis.

Railways General Manager Dhammika Jayasundara says that plans have been made to repair and operate the engines and coaches currently available in the Railways Department.

Accordingly, two trains from Galle to Colombo Fort, one train from Avissawella to Colombo Fort, one train from Veyangoda to Colombo Fort and one train from Negombo to Colombo Fort have been planned to be deployed in this manner.

Meanwhile, attention has also been focused on running the night mail train, which runs only up to Galle Railway Station on the coastal railway line, up to Beliatta Railway Station, said Dhammika Jayasundara.
