President AKD has landed in China.!

At the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake made his first state visit to China today (14) and landed at Beijing International Airport.

The Chinese military gave President Dissanayake a ceremonial welcome, and China’s Deputy Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong formally received him.

According to the President’s Media Division, the national flags of both countries were tastefully flown along President Anura Kumara Disanayake’s route, signifying respect and goodwill between the two countries.

The President is expected to take part in a number of important activities during this state visit, such as field trips that concentrate on agricultural and technological advancement and programs that try to reduce poverty. High-level business meetings and discussions are also part of the visit.

Additionally, it is anticipated that the visit will result in the signing of a number of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) intended to improve bilateral cooperation between China and Sri Lanka.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Vijitha Herath, Minister of Transportation, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation Bimal Rathnayake, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Colombo Qi Zhenhong, and Ambassador Majintha Jayesinghe of Sri Lanka are among the delegation that is traveling with President Dissanayake.

In a bold move to tackle the alarming rise in road accidents, the Sri Lanka Police have rolled out state-of-the-art US-made speed guns worth Rs. 91 million. These high-tech devices, designed to detect speeding vehicles day and night, aim to curb reckless driving and save lives. With 24,589 traffic accidents reported in 2024 alone, including 2,242 fatal incidents, this initiative could be a game-changer for road safety across the island.

The first phase of distribution saw 30 speed guns handed over to traffic officers in Negombo, Kelaniya, Gampaha, and the Western Provincial Traffic (South) Division. Acting Inspector General of Police emphasized that these devices, which use advanced laser technology, will soon be deployed island-wide.

Speeding has been a major contributor to road accidents, with 31,182 cases recorded last year, leading to 731 crashes. The new speed guns are expected to help traffic officers enforce speed limits more effectively. To ensure seamless implementation, the Police Traffic Division will provide comprehensive training to officers on operating the cutting-edge technology.

During the heated 2024 presidential election campaign, the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) revealed it earned over Rs. 56 million by providing air transport services to candidates. This surprising figure, disclosed in response to a Right to Information (RTI) request, sheds light on how political leaders utilized state resources for their campaigns—and who footed the bill.

The SLAF’s air transport services were in high demand for 34 days, starting from the nomination submissions on August 15, 2024, and ending with the conclusion of campaigns on September 18, 2024. Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe topped the list, spending Rs. 29.09 million for 23 flights. Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa followed closely, paying Rs. 20.75 million for 11 flights. Meanwhile, SLPP candidate Namal Rajapaksa utilized two flights, contributing Rs. 1.44 million to the SLAF’s earnings.

Other notable figures also made use of the service. Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa paid Rs. 2.68 million for two flights, while former Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena spent Rs. 1.24 million for a single flight. Former National Security Adviser Sagala Ratnayake’s campaign also relied on the SLAF, with Rs. 1.6 million spent on one flight. Interestingly, NPP candidate and President Anura Kumara Dissanayake did not use any SLAF flights during the campaign.

The SLAF also disclosed that it spent Rs. 9 million on 42,000 liters of fuel to support these air transport operations during the election period. This revelation comes amid media speculation about the use of state resources for campaigning activities. Earlier, the SLAF clarified that aircraft were provided to candidates on a payment basis, following standard procedures.

In a significant move to enhance law enforcement in Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs has unveiled plans to establish crime investigation divisions across all provinces, starting with the Southern Province. Minister Ananda Wijepala announced that these divisions aim to regularize and streamline the investigation process, complementing the existing police stations.

According to the Minister, the establishment of these provincial crime units is part of a broader effort to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of criminal investigations. By decentralizing certain investigative functions, the police force will be better equipped to handle cases with a more focused and systematic approach.

Currently, these divisions have already been set up in the Southern Province, with plans to expand to other provinces following cabinet approval. Minister Wijepala emphasized that certain high-profile or complex investigations will continue to be directly supervised by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), ensuring a coordinated response to crime across the nation.

ශ්‍රී ලංකා විදුලි සංදේශ නියාමන කොමිෂන් සභාව ජනතාව වෙත දැනුවත්කිරීමක් කරමින් කියා සිටින්නේ ඉදිරියේදී නීත්‍යානුකූලව ආනයනය කළ ජංගම දුරකථන පමණක් මිලදී ගන්නා ලෙසයි.

පසුගියදා ක්ලීන් ශ්‍රී ලංකා රථවාහන මෙහෙයුම් අතරතුර නීතිය ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමට යාමේදී මගීන් අතරමග බස්සවා පිටත්ව ගිය මාර්ග අංක 100 පානදුර – පිටකොටුව බස් රථයේ හිමිකරු, රියදුරා සහ කොන්දොස්තරවරයාට එරෙහිව බස්නාහිර පළාත් මාර්ගස්ථ මගී ප්‍රවාහන අධිකාරිය දැඩි ක්‍රියාමාර්ග ගෙන ඇති බව වාර්තාවේ.
