The Minister also stated that opposition members without party affiliations have established a forum titled the “Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Mansion Saving Forum.”

Dr. Jayatissa detailed that the residence, located on 30,554 square feet of land, has undergone significant expansion over time. Originally a smaller property, various adjoining plots were acquired, transforming it into a sprawling estate now spanning approximately an acre. The monthly rental value of the house is estimated at 4.6 million rupees.

He further revealed that over the past few years, more than 43 million rupees have been spent on renovations, which include the installation of modern electric elevators.

Concluding his remarks, Minister Dr. Jayatissa reminded Parliament that Mahinda Rajapaksa could vacate the residence at any time without awaiting official notification.

In a case involving allegations of assembling a Toyota Land Cruiser jeep by welding two parts outside the manufacturer’s factory, Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura has ordered Member of Parliament and former Minister of Justice Sujeewa Arjuna Senasinghe to appear in court on February 5. This order follows a motion filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on January 8.

The V8 vehicle in question was reportedly assembled, and its registered owner, Sujeewa Senasinghe, has been released on a bond of 100 million rupees. Additionally, the court has prohibited the sale, modification, or transfer of the vehicle.

Separately, former Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara is set to appear before the CID today (21) to provide a statement regarding the E8 cooperation program. This initiative is focused on facilitating the migration of Sri Lankan workers to South Korea for employment in the agricultural and fisheries sectors.

President’s Counsel Saliya Peiris, representing Nanayakkara, informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali yesterday (20) that his client is willing to cooperate with the investigation. This announcement was made during the hearing of an anticipatory bail petition filed by Nanayakkara, seeking pre-arrest bail in anticipation of a potential arrest related to the E8 program.

Gota Unaware of G. Rajapaksa and Menik River Construction.!

Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was questioned on the 17th by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) regarding the illegal construction of approximately 12 rooms on a government reserve land near the Menik River in Kataragama.

During the questioning, Gotabaya Rajapaksa claimed that he was unaware of the electricity bills issued in the name of “G. Rajapaksa” for the building and denied any involvement in the matter.

CID investigations revealed that the construction was carried out prior to 2010, utilizing labor contributions from the army. Following its completion, a member of the Navy was reportedly assigned to guard the premises.

On December 27, the CID also questioned Major Neville Wanniarachchi, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s personal security officer, as part of the investigation. On January 3, Yoshitha Rajapaksa was also interrogated, during which he similarly denied knowledge of the construction.

Notably, this investigation had initially been launched during the Yahapalana government but was allegedly manipulated when the Rajapaksa regime returned to power.

The electricity bills for the building, however, continue to bear the name “G. Rajapaksa,” raising further questions about the connection.

AKD Exposes Former President’s Rs. 800K Medicine Bill.!

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake revealed that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had received free medicines worth Rs. 800,000 through the military hospital over a period of just four months.

He emphasized that such incidents reflect a broader issue where certain groups exploit public funds for personal benefits without accountability.

“There is a need to end this culture of misuse,” the President asserted, adding that significant reforms are required to address these systemic problems and ensure fairness in the use of public resources.

Did President AKD Repackage Gammanpila’s Oil Tank Project?

Former Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila claimed that the Trincomalee Oil Tank Complex project, recently highlighted by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, was initiated three years ago during his tenure as Energy Minister.

Speaking at a media conference at the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya party headquarters today (20), Gammanpila stated that he signed the agreement for this project on January 6, 2022. He alleged that the National People’s Power (NPP), led by the current President, had strongly opposed the project at the time.

Gammanpila criticized the President for presenting the project as a new initiative by his government. He argued that the groundwork had already been laid in 2022, during his efforts to reclaim the oil tanks, which had been underutilized and decaying for 75 years.

“The President announced in Katukurunda yesterday that the 99 tanks in the Trincomalee Oil Tank Complex exceed Sri Lanka’s storage needs. He stated that 24 tanks would remain with the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, 14 tanks used by LIOC would remain with them, and the remaining 61 tanks would be developed as an Indian-Sri Lankan joint venture. But this is not a new initiative.

When I became Energy Minister in 2020, all 99 tanks had been under Indian control since 2002. Of these, 14 tanks were used by LIOC, and two were allocated to Prima for water storage. The remaining 83 tanks were unused for decades. After extensive negotiations, we regained control of these tanks, allowing LIOC to continue using only 14.

This agreement was finalized in 2022, and I even presented the book Oil Tanks Back to the Country in Parliament to document this achievement. If the President had read it, he wouldn’t need to make misleading claims.

The Malima government came to power on false promises and continues to rely on lies. When I was working to reclaim and develop the oil tank complex, they were my biggest obstacle,” Gammanpila stated.

‘They’re Claiming What We Built!’ – DV Chanaka on the Hambantota Refinery.!

Former Deputy Minister of Energy DV Chanaka had called a media briefing yesterday (17) to reveal the history of the construction of the Chinese refinery in Hambantota to the country.

At that, Mr. Chanaka said that the relevant land was allocated by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and that the relevant work was taken forward by Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera.

Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa was the one who established the Hambantota Investment Zone and after the establishment of the investment zone, Sinopac was selected for the construction of such an oil refinery after calling a tender under the leadership of former Minister Kanchana, says DV Chanaka.

However, a problematic situation arose in the supply of electricity and water required for the refinery process and the MP says that he and his team resolved those issues.

The MP further stated that the provision of 150 petrol stations in the country to Sinopac was also a preliminary step in this project, and that although the government said it had signed an agreement with Sinopac for this investment, the agreement had been signed previously.
