Massive Cannabis Bust in Chilaw – Suspect Arrested.!

A suspect has been detained by the police for carrying 247 kilograms and 946 grams of cannabis, which was being transported in a car.

According to the Police Spokesman’s Office, the arrest occurred as part of Sri Lanka Police’s nationwide crackdown on crime and drug-related offenses, carried out under the directives of the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP).

During the operation, officers from the Chilaw Divisional Anti-Vice Unit, acting on gathered intelligence, intercepted and arrested the suspect.

The individual, a 36-year-old resident of Thimbilla, Sanghathattana, was taken into custody last night (25) near a bridge at Merawala, under the Chilaw Police Division.

Upon inspection, authorities discovered 247 kilograms and 946 grams of cannabis inside the suspect’s vehicle. The contraband was tightly packed into 114 parcels and concealed in the rear section of the car.

Initial inquiries suggest the vehicle was being used to smuggle the narcotics from Merawala to Munneswaram.

The police have seized the car, while Chilaw Headquarters Police continue further investigations.
