(LK time)The Acting IGP has instructed the Panadura Crimes Investigation Division to investigate the death of a man from Wadduwa, who reportedly passed away after being granted police bail.
Around 40 individuals gathered outside the Wadduwa Police Station last night, protesting against the police, accusing them of assaulting and causing the death of a father of one.
The deceased, a resident of Thalpitiya, Wadduwa, allegedly died after vomiting blood following his release on bail.
Residents assembled outside the police station, demanding justice for the victim and his family.
To handle the situation, a team of officers was called in from nearby stations, including Bandaragama, Pinwatta, Moronthuduwa, and Hirana.
Police Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manathunga confirmed that the Acting IGP had directed the Panadura SSP to begin an investigation.
He also mentioned that a post-mortem will be performed today, and if forensic evidence proves the victim was beaten inside the police station, stringent action will be taken against the officers involved.
