Ex-IGP Deshabandu Moves Court to Avoid Arrest.!

The legal team of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon has filed a motion with the Court of Appeal regarding his petition to prevent arrest over the 2023 Weligama shooting incident.

The petition seeks to halt the arrest order issued by the Matara Magistrate’s Court, and the motion requests permission to submit additional case documents.

The Court of Appeal is set to deliver its decision today (17), determining whether to grant the interim injunction requested to suspend Tennakoon’s arrest warrant.

In his petition, Tennakoon alleges that Public Security Secretary Ravi Seneviratne and ex-CID Director SSP Shani Abeysekara are influencing efforts to arrest him.

Meanwhile, police investigations continue as Tennakoon remains in hiding, avoiding arrest over the December 31, 2023, shooting near the W15 Hotel in Weligama.
