(LK time)Police have discovered a grenade at the residence of the suspect arrested for the sexual assault of a female doctor at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.
A joint operation was carried out this morning (14) by the Galnewa Police and Special Task Force (STF) at the suspect’s Galnewa home, police confirmed.
The explosive device was found during the raid, which was initially launched to recover the missing mobile phone belonging to the assault victim.
The suspect was presented before the Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday (13), where police secured permission to detain and interrogate him for 48 hours.
On March 10, a female doctor attached to Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital was sexually assaulted by an unknown attacker at the doctors’ quarters.
The main suspect, a 34-year-old man from Galnewa, was apprehended on Wednesday (12) in a joint operation by Galnewa Police and the Anuradhapura STF, while hiding in a wooded area in Galnewa.
During interrogation, the suspect provided details leading to the discovery of the knife used to threaten the victim during the assault.
