(LK time)Fifteen Indian nationals who had been staying in the country without proper visas, violating immigration and emigration rules, were sent back to Chennai, India.
They had arrived in the country using complimentary tourist visas issued at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake.
It was also discovered that this group of Indian citizens had been employed as sculptors, while others were involved in religious movement promotions in the Jaffna region.
Moreover, two members from this same group had planned to conduct a religious gathering for healing illnesses in the Mathagal area of Jaffna on March 5 and 7. However, Hindu nationalist groups in that region staged a demonstration against them.
As a result, the two religious leaders in question were detained, and arrangements were made to send them back to Chennai, India, yesterday (March 08).
Additionally, eight more Indian nationals employed as sculptors in a timber mill in the Jaffna area, along with five others working in eateries, were apprehended and deported to Chennai, India, via Palaly Airport on the same day.
