A discussion between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and senior officials from the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development took place today (14) at the Presidential Secretariat.

Talks centred on improving the productivity, coordination, and advancement of the manufacturing industry to boost the national economy, while also tackling obstacles linked to these initiatives, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).

Major subjects included state-driven primary investments and effective oversight to assist small and medium-scale businesses, the development of domestic small-scale enterprises within investment zones, and difficulties related to obtaining business loans for small and medium-sized enterprises.

The President instructed authorities to accelerate the handover of lands designated for the Ministry of Industry that remain undistributed, the PMD reported.

Further discussions covered managing and overseeing import restrictions to support domestic industries, giving priority to local vendors in construction sector procurements, and addressing challenges in the gem and jewellery industry to maximise its contribution to the economy.

The President also directed officials to promptly enforce tax concessions for tourists to stimulate the gem and jewellery sector, the statement noted.
