Nalinda Jayatissa Promises Future Fuel Tax Reductions.!

The government is committed to reducing fuel taxes in the future, said Chief Government Whip, Minister Nalinda Jayatissa, today.

Addressing Parliament, the Minister confirmed that the government has provided maximum relief to the people through the 2025 budget, adding that no new taxes have been imposed within the budget.

Minister Jayatissa’s remarks came in response to a question raised by MP Dayasiri Jayasekara, who asked whether the government would reduce fuel taxes, as promised by the National People’s Power (NPP) during the election campaign.

MP Jayasekara pointed out that the NPP had alleged that unreasonable fuel taxes (Rs. 50) had been levied and claimed that the former Minister was receiving commissions related to these taxes.

In response, Minister Jayatissa stated that a comprehensive report will be presented to Parliament outlining how the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) was turned into a loss-making entity and the involvement of the former Minister in the matter.
