(LK time)Oracle Corporation has expressed its readiness to assist Sri Lanka’s digital evolution by offering Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
The statement was made during the World Governments Summit held in the United Arab Emirates yesterday (11).
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake met with Oracle Corporation’s Executive Vice Chairman Mike Sicilia. The conversation centered on Sri Lanka’s digital development, the integration of fintech services, and cloud infrastructure to improve economic and governance effectiveness.
President Dissanayake urged Oracle to set up a sovereign Oracle Cloud region in Sri Lanka to accommodate government applications, e-governance tools, and a national data system, while ensuring data sovereignty and regulatory adherence.
The President and Oracle’s Executive Vice Chairman also discussed laying the groundwork for fintech and digital payment systems to speed up Sri Lanka’s shift to a cashless society. As part of this initiative, President Dissanayake invited Oracle to create a Digital Transformation Hub in Colombo Port City, designed to become South Asia’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cloud Hub. He also asked Mike Sicilia to send a team to Sri Lanka to support this plan.
Acknowledging Oracle’s regional vision for digital change and innovation, the Executive Vice Chairman showed strong interest in launching Oracle’s South Asian AI and Cloud Hub in Colombo Port City. He emphasized that this move would strategically position Sri Lanka as a regional pioneer in AI-powered cloud solutions, nurturing public-private partnerships and attracting state-of-the-art technology investments.
Throughout the discussion, President Dissanayake reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s dedication to using new technologies for improved governance, economic prosperity, and international competitiveness. He extended an invitation to Oracle to be a pivotal partner in Sri Lanka’s digital revolution.
