President AKD Calls for Global Unity to Tackle Transnational Challenges.!

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that global climate issues are knocking at everyone’s door, regardless of wealth or status, and emphasized the urgent need for global citizens to unite in tackling transnational challenges.

He made these remarks today (12) during his address at the 2025 World Governments Summit in the United Arab Emirates, as reported by the President’s Media Division (PMD).

In his speech, President Dissanayake presented Sri Lanka’s vision for economic growth, innovation, and governance reforms. He reiterated the country’s strong commitment to sustainable development and international collaboration.

While discussing the summit’s role in shaping future strategies for global issues, the President highlighted the necessity of a collective global response and a unified front in confronting these challenges.

He also stressed the importance of social justice and the rule of law in establishing a structured state and a more responsible world. He underscored the need for effective implementation of agreements and legal frameworks, ensuring systematic support for low-income and vulnerable communities, and holding officials accountable. In this context, he highlighted the crucial role of a free press and social activists.

The President also addressed the growing instability of the global financial landscape, caused by strict financial conditions, looming debt repayments, and a fragile international financial system ill-prepared for a widespread sovereign debt crisis. He called for financial reforms to create a fairer economic environment in the modern world.

He also emphasized the need to update the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) Charter, advocating for the inclusion of digital access rights and environmental rights.

Speaking about human-centered future development, President Dissanayake stressed the urgent need for robust cyber security measures worldwide. He also highlighted the challenges posed by automation and robotics, particularly the risk of job displacement. To address this, he called for structured initiatives focusing on education, skills development, and identifying new employment opportunities. He urged global leaders to collaborate on these efforts.

President Dissanayake concluded by noting that just as the challenges we face are universal, the “lub-dub” rhythm of our hearts calls us to unite and rebuild the world together.

Quoting Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous words, “We must learn to live together as brothers,” President Dissanayake emphasized the collective responsibility of building a better world. He also recalled that in 2024, the people of Sri Lanka came together to build a “beautiful life and a thriving nation.”

In his heartfelt appeal at the summit, President Dissanayake urged world leaders and delegates, saying, “Let us come together and rebuild the world.”
