(LK time)Three individuals, including well-known Sri Lankan rapper and vocalist Amila Kaushan Gunaratne, famously called ‘Shan Putha,’ have been ordered to remain in custody for a week for interrogation after being apprehended with a firearm.
The suspects were presented before the Matara Magistrate’s Court yesterday (14).
‘Shan Putha’ was taken into custody by Homagama Police on the same day with a 9mm pistol in his possession.
Additionally, two others were arrested: Keshara Ishan, Shan Putha’s administrator from Urubokka, and Police Constable Chandika Srimal, assigned to Mannar Police.
Initial police probes disclosed that Constable Chandika Srimal had unlawfully taken the firearm from Matara Kotawila Police Station and later handed it over to the musician.
The three detainees were presented before the Matara Magistrate around 10 p.m. yesterday (14).
The suspects linked to the incident are:
- Amila Kaushan Gunaratne (Shan Putha), residing in Godagama
- Keshara Ishan, from Urubokka, manager of Shan Putha
- Police Constable Chandika Srimal, a 27-year-old from Homagama
Following medical evaluations, the suspects were instructed to be held for a week at Kotawila Police Station for deeper inquiries and investigation.
