Clean Sri Lanka Initiative: A Bold Step Against ‘Invisible Terrorism’.!

Participating in a special media briefing held at the Government Information Department under the theme ‘The Role of the Police with the New Government Programme’, Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya stated that the number of people who die in traffic accidents per day has been reduced through the traffic operation launched by the police in conjunction with the Clean Sri Lanka programme.

The Acting IGP stated that maintaining road discipline is of utmost importance and that this is invisible terrorism.

Prior to the programme, nearly 9 people died in traffic accidents per day and that this number has now been reduced from 4 to 2, said Mr. Priyantha Weerasuriya.

According to police statistics, between 10-15 people per day become permanently disabled due to traffic accidents, which is more than the number of people who were disabled per day during the war, he added.

The Acting IGP also recalled that for the first time in history, no traffic accidents were reported on Christmas Day, December 25th, which was a special occasion.
