SriLankan Airlines to Receive Rs. 20 Billion for Debt Settlement.!

The Sri Lankan government has unveiled a detailed plan to settle SriLankan Airlines’ legacy debt.

SLA, a major player in passenger and cargo air transport, has faced numerous challenges in past attempts by various governments to privatize and attract private investment.

To address these issues, the government will enter into an agreement with the relevant banks and allocate Rs. 10,000 million for loan capital repayment in 2025, along with an additional Rs. 10,000 million for interest payments.

This initiative is designed to alleviate SLA of its debt burden.

Once these legacy debt obligations are cleared, SLA will be fully responsible for maintaining its financial stability.

To support this transition, the airline is formulating a new medium-term strategic plan.

The government has proposed a total of Rs. 20,000 million for this purpose in the 2025 Budget.

This was revealed by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in his 2025 Budget speech in Parliament on Monday (17).
